Three Things

If you have the following three things inside you, your life is beautiful…

The habitants of a small Anatolian village gathered at a plateau for a collective rain prayer in a very dry season. All villagers attended the prayer in person. Only one of them had an umbrella.

This is FAITH.

Little in Manhattan – A romantic movie for the whole family…

This is a family movie that has it all. It is naïve, natural, funny and moving. I watched it three times over two weeks before returning it to Netflix. Each time, I caught something different.

The story is narrated through the eyes of an 11 year old boy who lives in Manhattan and whose parents are about to get a divorce. In the midst of all these changes in life, the boy falls in love for the very first time…While the movie gives a beautiful description of innocent first love, it has good emphasis on  parent-child relationship especially that of the father & son. It also slightly touches on the basics of maintaining the initial atmosphere of love in a marriage.. This cute story is enhanced visually with Manhattan as the backdrop.

I enjoyed it so much, hope you do too.

Mediterranean Sea bass – a lovely surprise on a rainy day

Because I was born and raised in a Mediterranean coastal region, fish has a special place not only in my diet but also in my heart. However, the Mediterranean fish has not been that easy to find in NJ and it is very different in both its taste and preparation.

Yesterday afternoon, a little bit frustrated because of the sudden temperature drop soon after spring was just in the air, we thought of doing something different and checked out Whole Foods in Madison for the very first time.

In the seafood section, we came across a beautiful surprise that made us feel the lovely breeze of our first home country. There they were…The branzini , or the so-called Mediterranean sea bass. We got two of the biggest right away…

It really tastes different as it comes from the sea rather than the ocean. It is grilled as a whole and makes one serving. The fact that it is grilled in its skin renders the fish more juicy and softer as the skin serves as a wrapper around the meat. It is eaten with the skin and I believe the flavor of the skin enhances the taste of the fish.

This food is mainly local to the Mediterranean region. The Italian call it branzini, the Greek lavraki and the Turk levrek…

It is best when grilled and accompanied with some Mediterranean salad that has been dressed with olive oil and lemon. So spring is around the corner and summer is drawing near. A healthy, tasty and delightful dining experience preferably in the yard…

Thanks to my wonderful husband for his excellent grill.

Enjoy…..

Participate in the Earth Hour Effort….

This Saturday night millions of people around the globe will be turning off their lights for an hour at 8:30. This is a way of expressing our concern for the climate change by saving some energy. Many regions on Earth have already started to feel slight impacts of the climate change. So, become a part of this movement on the 27th. Imagine how much energy will be saved if everyone participated during just one hour. Of course it will not save the future of the planet but it will indicate the level of awareness in the public and send a meaningful message to the organizations, corporations and governments. Here are some useful links…

EARTH IS HOME

Earth is home. It is a living planet that is nurturing and protective, full of abundance and diversity. Yet, very much unappreciated. Currently so fragile. Thank God, still hopeful……

I live a privileged life in a privileged country too and I want to make sure that our children will be privileged enough to enjoy a living, on this nurturing, protective Earth with their own children. In this virtual space, I will try to share my journey of leading an environmental friendly life as a homemaker and a parent. I hope to connect with those who are in the same effort and dream that we can influence the rest of the world all together…

The actions we can take are simple, yet can be meaningful and promising if and only if we act collectively…

I promise to do my part to heal our planet. I believe that the solution to our problem is in our hands. And if every parent does the same, we can really change the direction we are heading….

Please take a few minutes to hear the voice of the future…
